An even cheaper “Nothing” Phone is coming soon

If you’re looking for a budget smartphone from Nothing that’s cheaper than the Phone (2a), this upcoming device might be your cup of tea. Okay, it isn’t exactly a Nothing Phone but a new smartphone under the CMF brand.

For those who don’t know, CMF is Nothing’s affordable sub-brand that supposedly makes products with clean designs that are accessible to the wider public.

According to CMF in their tweet, the upcoming smartphone is called the CMF Phone 1 which leverages Nothing’s innovation and meticulous attention to design. The Phone 1 is described as their entry point to their entire product ecosystem

Three days ago, Nothing dropped a teaser image of what seems to be a corner of a device. Now CMF by Nothing has released another teaser image while confirming that the new device is called the CMF Phone 1.

As you can see from the teaser above, the corner of the device has a dial knob element which seems to be a volume rocker or an alert switch. We’ve seen a similar design on the CMF Buds, but it merely functions as a mounting point for attaching a lanyard.

Speculated CMF Phone 1 Specs

The specs of the CMF Phone have been speculated to be a mid-tier device with a 6.7″ 120Hz OLED screen and running on a MediaTek Dimensity 7200. The device is said to come with a modest 8GB of RAM paired with either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage and a possibility of microSD card expansion.

Just like other Nothing Phone devices, the CMF Phone 1 is expected to come with a dual-camera setup for the rear that consists of a 50MP main camera. It is speculated to come with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging via USB-C.

Unlike the Nothing Phone which stands out with its “transparent” rear design with fancy LED lights, the CMF Phone 1 is expected to come in four solid colours – Black, Green, Blue and Orange, and the plastic back cover is removable.

If you’re wondering what’s with the knob design on the bottom right corner, apparently that portion houses a special connector which allows users to attach a range of Nothing accessories such as support brackets and lanyards.

So far there are no firm launch dates yet, but the CMF Phone 1 is expected to be released sometime in July with an estimated starting price of USD 250 (about RM1,174). As a reference, the Nothing Phone (2a) with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro, 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is officially priced at RM1,699 in Malaysia.
