Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G launched in Malaysia, from RM1,099

After launching the Camon 40 Pro 4G last month, Tecno has now launched its 5G sibling, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G, here in Malaysia. Just in case you missed it, the Tecno Camon 40 series was debuted at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona in early March, with a total of four models — Camon 40, Camon 40 Pro 4G, Camon 40 Pro 5G, and the Camon 40 Premier. Only the Camon 40 Pro models are offered in Malaysia.

  • Camon 40 Pro 5G (8GB RAM + 256GB storage): RM1,099
  • Camon 40 Pro 5G (12GB RAM + 256GB storage): RM1,199

At the moment, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G will only be available offline via Tecno Malaysia’s official dealers. If you prefer to buy it online, you will have to wait till the 25th of April when it’s made available on Tecno Malaysia’s Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G Malaysia: Specs and features

So, what do you gain by opting for the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G over its 4G sibling? Well, aside from 5G, you’re essentially getting a smoother display and a more capable processor. Now, let me bring you through its specs a little bit.

Available in three colourways — Galaxy Black, Emerald Green, and Glacier White, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G is rated at IP68/69, making it both dust and water resistant. The device’s back is also said to be resistant towards dirt and stains, such as lipstick. Technically speaking, you no longer need to worry about your little one ruining your smartphone with their crayon set. Additionally, the Camon 40 Pro 5G has also been granted the SGS Gold Label 5-Star Anti-Drop Certification.

At the face of the device is a 6.78″ Full HD+ (2436×1080) curved AMOLED display that’s found on the 4G model. But the Camon 40 Pro 5G’s panel is smoother with a refresh rate of 144Hz, up from the 4G model’s 120Hz.

Powering the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G is MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 Ultimate chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM (expandable to 24GB) and 256GB of storage. For context, the 4G model sports MediaTek’s Helio G100 Ultimate.

With this processor, Tecno is guaranteeing the Camon 40 Pro 5G to be lag-free for up to 72 months or 6 years. It also comes with NFC, making contactless payments such as Google Wallet possible.

In the imaging department, both the Tecno Camon 40 Pro models essentially sport the same camera system. Specifically, you’re looking at a twin-rear-camera setup, featuring a 50MP f/1.8 main camera that comes with a 1/1.56″ Sony LYT-700C sensor and OIS. Additionally, there’s also an 8MP ultra-wide shooter.

Looking at its design, you might be curious about what the third lens is all about. Well, that one isn’t exactly used for standalone imaging, but is instead an AI snapshot sensor. For selfies, you get a 50MP f/2.5 shooter.

The Camon 40 Pro 5G also comes with what Tecno calls the Smart Breathing Light V2.0, which is the red dot above the flash unit. This thing here can serve as a photography indicator light, a charging reminder, or a ‘music atmosphere light’.

As a phone in 2025, it must also come with some AI features, right? In the case of the Camon 40 Pro 5G, you get AI photography features such as AI Eraser 2.0, AI Image Extender, and a new feature called FlashSnap.

To activate FlashSnap, simply activate its dedicated mode, and with auto capture mode turned on, the camera will automatically snap a picture when it detects movement. This includes, let’s say, a person jumping or doing a basketball slam dunk.

Keeping lights on for the Camon 40 Pro 5G is a 5200mAh battery, which Tecno claims can last you up to 11.3 hours with continuous video playback. When the battery runs flat, it can be charged via USB-C at 45W, which the company says can juice up to phone from flat to 50% in 23 minutes. Tecno says the battery can endure over 1,800 charge cycles, and can retain more than 80% battery capacity even after five years of use.

By the way, the Tecno Camon 40 series is fitted with a new orange button on the left of the phone. Called the One-Tap Button, it by default launches the camera app with a double press and Tecno’s proprietary Ella AI voice assistant with a press and hold.

The good news this button can be reprogrammed to launch almost any function or app you want. Some of the examples you can programme the One-Tap Button to activate include setting the phone to silent mode, start screen recording, launch the Notebook, or turn on the torch.

As I’ve just mentioned, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G comes with the brand’s Chatgpt-powered Ella voice assistant. As a phone that runs on Android 15 (with HiOS 15 stacked on top), you have the choice to opt for Google’s Gemini instead. Google’s Circle to Search function is here too.
