Want to use Google Pay to purchase your favourite sneakers online, but don’t own a supported debit or credit card? Well, you will be glad to know that Google Pay now supports ShopeePay and TNG eWallet in Malaysia, making our market the first in Southeast Asia to receive such a feature.
How does the Google Pay eWallet integration work?
Available for Android users nationwide, you can now pay for items online via Google Pay with your ShopeePay and/or TNG eWallet, instead of just your debit/credit card. However, this integration is only supported on the mobile sites of selected merchants via Google Chrome.
Thus far, the merchants include those who utilise Fiuu and iPay88 as their payment gateway provider. Among them are Nando’s, US Pizza, Alpro Pharmacy, TK Bakery, and Yoyo Bus.
You can reload your eWallet via Google Pay, but not pay using your phone or watch
You read that right. You can also reload your eWallet directly via Google Pay without needing to switch apps. Google also mentioned that users will be able to view their eWallet balance in the future straight via Google Pay. The company is also working on supporting more eWallet platforms moving forward.
However, the eWallet integration is only supported on Google Pay, but not Google Wallet. So that means you still can’t use Google Pay via the Google Wallet app on your Android phone or Wear OS watch to tap and pay for groceries and dinner at physical stores.
How to pay with eWallet on Google Pay for the first time
- Add the ShopeePay and/or TNG eWallet payment method into Google Pay and complete the verification process in the respective eWallet apps.
- When shopping at participating online merchants, tap on the Google Pay button at checkout or select “eWallet” when there’s the option to pay directly using ShopeePay or TNG eWallet.
- For security purposes, you will be prompted for a one-time verification process when making your first payment with your preferred eWallet via Google Pay.
- Once completed, you can pay using Google Pay with just one click.
- Each Google Pay transaction will also require a fingerprint or PIN verification.
