Starlink Residential Lite plan now available in Malaysia for RM129 per month

You can now obtain Starlink service in Malaysia at a slightly lower price. This is due to the introduction of the new Starlink Residential Lite plan in our market.

Prior to this, the monthly fee for Starlink service in Malaysia starts at RM220 per month under the Starlink Residential plan. With the Starlink Residential Lite plan, the monthly fee is much lower at RM129.

Starlink Residential Lite vs Residential: What are the differences?

As captured on Starlink Malaysia’s website on 23 May 2025.

As indicated by the word “Lite” in its name and also the lower monthly fee, the Residential Lite plan has a lower download speed than the standard Residential plan.

Specifically, the Lite plan subscribers can expect an Internet download speed of around 45 to 130Mbps. This is much lower than the typical Starlink download speed in Malaysia, which is between 109 to 276Mbps according to the coverage map on Starlink’s website.

The same goes for the plan’s upload speed too which ranges from 10 to 20Mbps. As a comparison, the average upload speed for Starlink service in Malaysia is 16 to 33Mbps, as noted by the coverage map.

Furthermore, Residential Lite customers may find their speed being slowed down during peak hours as Starlink will prioritise the speed for the Residential customers during such period. However, the Residential Lite plan still has no data and speed caps, just like the standard Residential plan.

According to the article on Starlink’s support website, customers can upgrade to the standard Residential plan at any time. While it was not specifically mentioned if Residential customers can downgrade to the Residential Lite plan, it should not be a problem based on this support article and also, this customer’s experience.
