Kedah is getting a significant EV charging infrastructure boost as TNB Electron has turned new chargers at two R&Rs along PLUS Expressway. Their 180kW DC Chargers at Gurun R&R for both Northbound and Southbound directions are now available and users can enjoy free charging until midnight tonight.
These are ideal stops for EV owners who need a quick top up between Alor Setar and Sungai Petani in Kedah, for both directions.
TNB Electron at Gurun R&R Northbound and Southbound
TNB Electron’s latest EV fast charging locations at Gurun R&R Northbound & Southbound are equipped with a 180kW DC charger with two CCS2 nozzles.
As shown here, they are covered by a unipole structure similar to other TNB Electron charging locations along highway R&Rs.

Similar to other high-powered TNB Electron EV charging locations, these EV chargers are priced at RM1.50 per kWh.
As usual, TNB Electron provides free charging in conjunction with the launch of new chargers on their network. They are currently providing free EV charging at Gurun R&Rs until tonight, 11:59pm on 24th May 2025.
No apps required. TNB Electron chargers adopt JuiceUp’s Tap & Charge solution

The two new EV charging locations at Gurun are equipped with JuiceUp’s Tap & Charge card terminal solution as shown above. There’s no need to download or maintain a minimum balance with the Go To-U app. Users can simply tap using their credit, debit and prepaid cards to activate and pay for their EV charging session.
Besides Gurun, TNB Electron has also rolled out JuiceUp’s payment terminals across its existing EV charging locations. While the card terminal makes it easier for users to start charging seamlessly, the lack of an app also means that you won’t be able to check the charger’s status remotely before you arrive at the location.
