RedMagic 10S Pro debuts with Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Edition

RedMagic has just debuted its latest gaming smartphones, the RedMagic 10S Pro and the 10S Pro+. Currently sold in China, these devices are pretty much identical and only differ in the storage and battery departments.

RedMagic 10S Pro series sports the Snapdragon 8 Edition under the hood

Let’s get the most interesting fact about the RedMagic 10S Pro series out of the way first — its chipset. These phones sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Edition chipset, which is essentially an overclocked version of the chipmaker’s flagship mobile processor.

With the RedMagic 10S Pro, this chipset can be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage. If you want to go all out, the 10S Pro+ is available with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Also, RedMagic has equipped these gaming phones with its proprietary RedCore R3 Pro co-processor. This little guy is essentially here to help offload specific tasks from the main processor when needed to make sure the devices run at their peak performance.

The thing is, chipsets get hot when being pushed. So to make sure the 10S Pro series keeps its “head” cool under heavy loads, RedMagic has equipped it with its enhanced ICE-X Cooling System that incorporates liquid cooling as well as a turbo fan.

Colour-wise, the RedMagic 10S Pro is available in either Shadow or Moonlight, with the 10S Pro+ getting an additional Dusk option. The former model can also be had in the form of the limited edition Wuthering Waves, albeit exclusively with the 16GB+512GB configuration.

RedMagic has fitted the 10S Pro series with customisable 15-colour RGB lighting that illuminates the cooling fan and the back panel. There’s also a programmable Magic Key that provides you access to gaming features and tools such as real-time translation and voice recording. Also here are the shoulder triggers, which RedMagic claims to have a 520Hz polling rate and a 2,500Hz touch sampling.

In terms of its display, the RedMagic 10S Pro series offers a 6.85″ 1.5K resolution LTPO OLED display with a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 2,000 nits peak brightness.

In terms of imaging, you get a tri-camera setup at the back, consisting of a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, and a 2MP auxiliary lens. At the front is a 16MP selfie shooter.

Battery-wise, the RedMagic 10S Pro comes with a 7,050mAh cell that can receive a charge at 80W. The 10S Pro+, on the other hand, gets a larger 7,500mAh unit, which the company says can provide up to 10 hours of uninterrupted high-performance gaming, and can be charged at 120W, bringing the phone from flat to full in 35 minutes.
