EV Connection (EVC) has posted a cryptic teaser hinting that something electric is brewing in Kuala Lumpur. There isn’t much details except that what’s brewing isn’t just your morning coffee and you’ll stay plugged in.
From the looks of it, this seems to be a rollout of new JomCharge chargers around Kuala Lumpur.
The teaser video shows various districts of Kuala Lumpur and it flashes several spots around Segambut, Seputeh, Titwangsa, Bandar Tun Razak, Setiawangsa, Batu, Bukit Bintang and Wangsa Maju. If we had to guess, these are likely new EV charging locations that will be deployed very soon.
Since it mentions coffee, there’s a high probability that these new JomCharge chargers will be deployed within close proximity or in partnership with a coffee outlet.

The new deployments would likely make a great addition to the EV infrastructure in Malaysia as destination chargers provide greater convenience for EV owners. If deployed at the right places, EV owners can top up their battery while running errands like dropping by a bank, shop or simply picking up food or coffee.
Depending on the power output, a quick 15-minute charge could easily add about 100km of range. Hopefully these EV charging locations will have more charging bays with idle fee implementation to ensure high availability for more users.

Early last year, JomCharge deployed a couple of DC Chargers at selected McDonald’s restaurants. This includes a 100kW DC Charger in Pantai Sentral Park and two 45kW DC Chargers at Setia Alam. Initially, these chargers were priced for only RM1.00 per kWh but they are now revise to RM1.50 per kWh.
