MGS5 EV will be making its way to Malaysia with an estimated price tag that starts at RM115,000. This was revealed during SAIC Motor Malaysia’s media preview session today, which marked the electric SUV’s first official outing in our market.

Expected to be a major rival to current market darlings such as Proton e.MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3 Ultra, the MGS5 EV will be available in Malaysia in two main variants. However, the company did not reveal the specific pricing for each variant, which is something that they are saving for the official launch this May.

MGS5 EV Malaysia quick specs

Built with a rear-wheel drive setup, the MGS5 EV will make its way to Malaysia with two battery and electric motor setups.

The base-spec model is powered by a 50kWh LFP battery and is paired with a 125kW (168hp) motor that also produces 250Nm of torque. This variant of MGS5 EV also supports a DC charging speed of 88kW while being able to deliver a WLTP-rated range of 340km.

On the other hand, the high-spec MGS5 EV for Malaysia is equipped with 64kWH NMC alongside a more powerful 180kW (241hp) that also provides 350Nm of torque. It also has a much higher WLTP-rated range of 480km and supports a DC charging speed of up to 150kW.

Other features that are standard across all MGS5 EV variants include 6.6kW AC charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, a 12.8-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, MG Pilot Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), and 7 airbags. The electric SUV also supports the MG iSMART mobile app that allows owners to remotely lock or unlock their car, check its location and charging status, as well as control the climate settings.

The high-spec MGS5 EV also has a long list of extra features. Among them include 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, leather and fabric combination seats with MG perforated pattern, a heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 6 premium audio speakers, rear reading lamps, rain-sensing wipers and a 360-degree surround-view camera. 

In terms of colourways, the MGS5 EV in Malaysia includes Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, and Dynamic Red as well as the Elegant Latte which is reserved for the high-spec model. The electric SUV comes standard with a dark interior as well as seats made out of a leather and fabric combination.
