BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD EVs in Malaysia, has issued an official response to a recent Power System Failure issue faced by a BYD Atto 3 owner who was travelling with his family from Melaka to Penang.
As shared on a Facebook post which has gone viral, the owner said his 10-month old vehicle had suddenly performed an emergency braking on the Cheras-Kajang expressway. Despite several attempts to restart the car, the display showed a “Power System Failure” message and had to get his EV towed to a service centre.
Following the incident, BYD Sime Motors has issued the following statement:
We are aware of the recent incident and take it very seriously. The safety of our customers is our highest priority. We are conducting a thorough investigation and we are in close contact with the affected customer.
To recap, the owner had posted online about his experience which took place during the Labour Day holiday. His vehicle had stalled on the fast lane but fortunately the highway patrol team came to his rescue within an hour. The EV was later loaded on the flatbed tow truck using dolly wheels as the wheels were allegedly locked despite setting the drive mode to Neutral.
In the post, the owner also expressed frustration about the lack of responsibility and coordination between the dealership where he bought his vehicle and the service centre that’s currently looking into his car. He was also informed that his 12V battery had to be replaced before they can move on with their inspection. Unfortunately, his 12V battery was already out of warranty as the vehicle had clocked over 20,000km mileage.
The owner informed us that BYD Sime Darby has reached out to him yesterday and they are working closely to solve the issue. The root cause of the sudden braking has yet to be identified as BYD is still diagnosing the problem
