EXCLUSIVE : Yuri Smollett has created a new audio series based on the true story of a group of sex workers forced to become thief after thief.

The series is intended for Vespucci's paperless audio zines, which previously featured episodes of stories by Steve Buscemi and Elle Fanning.

Over deadline

Audio series continued to be a gold mine for Hollywood, so much so that Paperless Vespucci signed an agreement with management and producer company Entertainment 360 to use the material.

Lovecraft Country star Smollett narrates and produces Star Bandits, written by Lexi Pandel, about a group of women in identical uniforms – baggy T-shirts and oversized sunglasses – who commit a series of bank robberies in Los Angeles. Vespucci, who is behind podcasts like Spotify's Revelations and the Showtime documentary 2nd Chance , hopes The Starlet Bandits could be one of a number of projects that could eventually be made into TV shows and movies.

Previous stories of around 30 minutes in length include The Jolly Boy , narrated by Buscemi Holly Lieberman, which tells the story of El Fanning, who is paralyzed from the waist down and creates the world's first silicone dildo. The short story "The Joke" was written by Olivia Rutiliano and Maggie Milstein. This work is based on the life of Suzanne Salter, the first female President of the United States, originally created as a joke, and "Maeve's Attitude" in a story by Jamie Clayton. The story of Goldman Sachs employee and transgender woman Maeve DuValley and her struggles with alcoholism and identity.

Paperless is run by Bridie Bischoff, VP of Development, and writer Michael LaPointe, who is editor in chief of audio magazine. HiddenLight Productions by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Weed Road Pictures by Akiva Goldsman and Tractor Beam by Patrick Somerville and David Eisenberg are working on a paperless adaptation of this story.

“As we developed Paperless, this was the perfect time to collaborate with partners who share a passion for 360 Entertainment, their true stories and their value in the landscape,” said Daniel Turkan and Johnny Galvin, co-founders of Vespucci.
