Dedicated shutter button to be introduced according to leaks

An interesting leak just came out for Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro. According to 91mobiles, Apple is looking to include a dedicated shutter button on next year’s Pro model. A rough schematic drawing of 2025’s model was shared online, and from the looks of it, we may see a more photo-centric Pro model next year.

Dedicated Capture Button on the iPhone 16 Pro

Based on the leaked schematics, the so-called Capture Button is placed right below the power button on the right side of the phone. This means that when you have the phone in landscape orientation, your pointer finger will naturally fall on that location to press the shutter button.

The information said that the button will be a two-stage button too – a light press to focus and a complete press to capture the image.

If you recall, Sony Xperia phones have been rocking the physical shutter button since the Xperia Z1 which was launched in 2013. Sony is the only company to have this feature currently, with the latest model Sony Xperia 1 V still maintaining this button.

Additionally, the same leak also shared some interesting numbers for the next iPhone 16 Pro. The phone will grow larger – new dimensions reported for the iPhone 16 Pro will be 149.6 x 71.4 x 8.4 mm. For context, the current iPhone 15 Pro is 146.6 x 70.6 x 8.25mm. The new phone looks to be larger in every dimension, which points to a bigger screen size. We may see a 6.2-inch display on the new phone compared to the 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any additional info like weight for the iPhone 16 Pro or any info for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but based on the trend, be prepared to lug around a heavy phone.

The question is – will the Capture Button be locked to photography/videography use, or can it be reprogrammed like the Action Button on the current iPhone 15 Pro? We will have to wait and see until September (the usual release window for the new iPhones) if this leak will be the real deal or die at the drawing board stage.
