OLED iPad Pro and larger iPad Air to be launched in May after delay

Earlier this month, news leaked that Apple will be launching new Macs and iPads sometime this month. We didn’t get the iPads, only the Macs with the new MacBook Air models. Now Mark Gruman from Bloomberg said that the iPads are still on the way for launch, but now revised the release date to sometime in May 2024.

iPad Pro with M2, launched in 2022

He said in his newsletter that Apple delayed the launch from the original launch window as the company was still finishing the software for the new models.

Speaking of which, the headline feature of the new iPad Pro will be the new OLED screen, along with the new M3 chip that was launched last year. Along with the new tablet, we should be expecting a newly redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, which was last refreshed way back in 2018. There is no mention that the new peripherals will be backwards compatible.

The current generation iPad Air

For the iPad Air, we should see the same M3 chip installed in the new model (the last update for the line was the M1 update in 2022). For the first time, the iPad Air will see the introduction of a big screen – a 12.9-inch model. The new size means that we should be able to get a big-screen iPad without paying for an iPad Pro – the current iPad Air model starts from RM 2,899 for the 64GB model while the cheapest 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts from RM 5,399 for the 128GB model.

If the tablet is launched in May, it will be in time for the annual WWDC conference between 10 – 14 June at Apple Park, Cupertino. We can expect updates for the PadOS to be revealed during the conference.
