Just in time for the upcoming Hari Raya holidays, Tesla has turned on its first Supercharger in Penang. It was barely two weeks ago that the company first revealed its plan to deploy a Supercharger in the state within Q2 2024.

Technically, the new Supercharger is not only the first of its kind in the state but it is also the first such deployment for the Northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Just like what Tesla’s Regional Director, Isabel Fan revealed during the opening of Tesla Charging Gamuda Cove last month, it is located on the mainland section of the state.

Specially, the new Tesla Supercharger is located at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya which is just a few kilometres away from the Penang Bridge. Tesla Malaysia’s website has since been updated to mark the new deployment.

As noted in the website, the Supercharger site at Sunway Carnival Mall comes with four charging stalls that can deliver DC charging output of up to 250kW. The site has been fitted with V3 Superchargers according to the photos shared by ShibliVision, who brought his Tesla Model 3 to charge over there last night.

The charging fee remains the same as per other Superchargers in Malaysia which is RM1.25 per kWh. The same goes for idle fees which costs up to RM4 per minute if the site is fully occupied.

ShibliVision also pointed out that the Superchargers at Sunway Carnival Mall are located in the parking valet area. Hence, Tesla owners who want to utilise these Superchargers need to pay an additional parking fee of RM5 per entry although this fee only applies from 10 AM to 10 PM.
